Man formally charged in 1990 Cape Coral double homicide

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The man accused of brutally killing and raping Robin Cornell, 11, and Lisa Story, 32, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder, sexual assault with a deadly weapon, sexual assault to a child and first-degree burglary with assault more than two decades after the crime.

Joseph Zieler, 54, was formally charged by the Florida State Attorney’s Office on Friday.

He was linked to the 1990 killings of Cornell and Story in September after police were able to match his DNA to a decades-old genetic profile created shortly after Cornell and Story were killed.
