CAPE CORAL, Fla. – The driver in a fatal hit-and-run has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, the police department announced Friday.

Timothy Wayne Turner, 49, had been drinking before he struck a bicyclist with his truck on the shoulder of NE Pine Island Road.

The impact knocked the bicyclist into a ditch and Turner fled the scene.

A Major Crash investigation eventually led to Turner being a suspect. Investigators found Turner at his home with his truck parked on the side. The rear “capper” had been removed and was hidden in his backyard.

Turner confessed to the crime after investigators matched the damage profiles.
