Troopers: Lehigh Acres wrong-way driver prompts crazy, drunken chase

Published: Updated:

NAPLES, Fla. – A 36-year-old man is facing charges for his third DUI in a decade after Florida Highway Patrol troopers said he was driving the wrong way down Interstate-75 on Friday.

Willie Christmas, of Lehigh Acres, was arrested and is facing charges for reckless driving, DUI third within ten years, fleeing and eluding, refusing to submit a breath test, the possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of cocaine.

Troopers tried to stop Christmas while he was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes near mile marker 78 before 9 p.m. Christmas stopped his car, but then drove away, crossing the median to the southbound lanes, troopers said. Troopers tried unsuccessfully to stop Christmas a second time, but they would find him an hour later, walking near his parked car along the northbound lanes of I-75 at mile marker 73.

Christmas has a long list of Lee County arrests.
