FORT MYERS, Fla. — A fatality has occurred from a crash late Monday night at the intersection of Michael G. Rippe Parkway and S. Tamiami Trail, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

A 2007 Dodge Charger was driving north on U.S. Route 41, and a 2005 Ford Mustang was in the left turning lane of Michael G. Rippe Parkway. The Dodge Charger did not stop at a red light, witnesses said. This caused the Charger to hit the drivers side of the Ford Mustang as the 2005 as it was turning on a green arrow, an FHP report said.

Three people suffered minor injuries from the crash, and the 55-year-old woman in the Ford Mustang was taken to Gulf Coast Hospital and pronounced dead, the report said. It is unknown if the Dodge driver had been drinking, the report said.

Although southbound lanes were closed throughout the night, but the intersection has been cleared.

No further information was immediately available.
