CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A local patriotic company spent their own money to repair the Tribute to a Soldier statue for Veteran’s Day when it was discovered that its foundation was crumbling.

Beattie Development construction manager and veteran David Short voiced his enthusiasm for the repair project.

“When you’ve been a part of the service, I almost want to salute every time I go by,” Short said.

The project was $15,000, which included replacing the granite and building a more sturdy foundation.

“You see America when you see the Iwo Jima statue with the flag,” Short said. “That flag is always fresh and the statue looks great when you come across the bridge at night. Everything was lit up and you get a certain pride.”

Crews will return Friday morning to power wash the statue before the Veteran’s Day ceremony at 1:30 p.m.
