CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A developer wants to build houses over the abandoned Cape Coral Country Club. DR Horton, a national home builder, wants to change the property’s future land use from recreation to residential so they can build homes. However, not all residents are happy about it; some neighbors want to keep the peace and quiet while others believe the golf club is an eyesore. A DR Horton representative told WINK News the company has worked “very carefully and patiently” with the community to create a neighborhood that blends in well with their surroundings, even making financial cutbacks to their original plan due to opposition from residents. The company submitted a land use change application but no public hearing has been scheduled at this time.
