Stolen assault rifle recovered in Fort Myers; 3 arrested

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Three people were arrested and a stolen assault rifle was recovered after a traffic stop Wednesday near 2990 Edison Ave.

Javaris Broomfield, 20, and two minors are facing marijuana-related charges. Broomfield also faces a concealed weapons charge after a rifle stolen from Charlotte County was found along with several guns in a blue Ford Expedition the three were traveling in.

Fort Myers Police Departments Gang Suppression Unit officers were conducting surveillance when they saw one of the teens loitering at 3036 Franklin St., the officers said.

Broomfield walked out of the home carrying a rifle hidden in a black hoodie, according to the officers.

The trio drove off the property and the officers pulled them over.

Broomfield is currently in custody with a $15,000 bond.

WINK News isn’t naming the minors who were arrested.
