VIDEO: Texas officer hit by car during traffic stop

EL PASO, Texas — Dash cam video shows a police officer getting hit by a car while conducting a traffic stop.

Officer Andy Rodriguez of the El Paso Police Department suffered only minor injuries in the crash, which happened while he was administering a field sobriety test on another driver early Friday morning. Rodriguez was able to push the man performing the test out of the way before he was hit.

“His own safety was the least of his concerns at the moment,” El Paso police Sgt. Enrique Carrillo said. “He was concerned for the welfare of the person he was dealing with.”

The impact sent Rodriguez several feet in the air. Another officer and the man whom Rodriguez had pulled over came to his aid.

Sherry Rodriguez, the 23-year-old driver of the car that hit the officer, is facing DWI charges and is free on $2,500 bond.

The man whom the officer had originally pulled over is also facing a DWI charge.

It’s unclear if there is any relation between the Rodriguezes.
