Bus route aimed at solving Collier beach parking woes

Published: Updated:

NORTH NAPLES, Fla. — Relief for jammed beach parking could be on the way.

A park-and-ride shuttle service to Vanderbilt Beach and Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park received approval Tuesday from the Collier County Commission. State grants and tourist tax revenue will go toward funding the $550,000 cost to start up the bus route, which will begin in February and run through the end of season.

Beachgoers will be able to park at North Collier Regional Park on 15000 Livingston Road and get a lift to the shore for $1.50 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Riders under 18 will only need to pay 75 cents.

The Collier Area Transit bus will also make stops at hotels and condos along the way, but the county commission hasn’t decided on which ones yet.
