Gun owner held up in Fort Myers robbery

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Two armed men stole weapons from a gun owner in broad daylight Tuesday, the Fort Myers Police Department said.

David Brandy, 48, was trying to sell a $1,400 shotgun and a $900 rifle out of his trunk just before 3 p.m., according to police.

He had arranged to meet the suspects in the parking lot outside the Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant at The Forum on 9390 Dynasty Drive. The suspects arrived and pulled out their own gun and ordered Brandy to the ground before driving off with his two guns, police said.

Brandy tried to trail them but was unable to get the license plate number on their getaway car.

It is legal to sell guns to strangers in public, according to Florida laws. But attorney Scott Moorey said the dealings can be dangerous, especially when facilitated through websites like Craiglist and Backpage, which don’t allow users to verify potential buyers.

FMPD did not respond to requests for comments.

It is unknown whether the two suspects are considered dangerous.
