Concern rises over potentially dangerous Charlotte County highway

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — One woman is calling attention to a dangerous intersection.

Nancy Wroe said she’s had several close calls at the intersection of Kings Highway and Tamiami Trail.

“If they haven’t had a death there yet, they’re going to,” she said. “It’s head on.

A WINK News investigation revealed there were 17 crashes at the intersection in the past six months, with two of those resulting in injuries and another two were hit and runs.

Law enforcement said they’re not concerned about the intersection as those statistics equal to less than one crash a week.

But Wroe is still calling for a left turn light signal to protect drivers turning into the intersection.

“It’s a really weird intersection where you’re not really thinking that the people can come at you,” she said, adding that the light could potentially save lives.

While the sheriff’s office isn’t concerned with crashes at this intersection, it does use some preventative measures, including traffic monitoring, in the area.
