NORTH NAPLES, Fla. — Two bodies were found at the scene of a car that caught fire Wednesday morning along the 700 block of 20th Avenue Northwest, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded to the flames at 7:23 a.m. and are conducting an investigation.

The cause of the fire is not known.

Nearby resident Ray Merrill said he heard two gunshots.

“Maybe 15, 20 minutes later, I saw fire engines and cops coming down,” he said.

The burned car was towed from the area near a canal at the end of the street shortly before 4 p.m.

A double car fire broke out at about noon on Pine Ridge Road, but it doesn’t appear to be related.
