PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — One person suffered critical injuries in a crash Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Sailors Way and Seaboard Lane, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m. and it involved a vehicle and a pedestrian, according to the FHP.

The 2005 Toyota Camry struck the pedestrian as it was traveling in reverse out of a driveway onto Sailors Way, authorities said. A pedestrian was running, and tripped in the vicinity of the Camry.

The Camry traveled southwest, but noticed the pedestrian on the ground after backing out, according to the FHP.

The pedestrian was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital, and had alcohol in his system at the time of the crash, according to a press release.

While authorities are investigating the crash, no one is facing charges, authorities said.
