Convicted Collier sex offenders back in prison for violating probation

GOLDEN GATE ESTATES, Fla. Two sex offenders were sent back to prison Wednesday after one of them violated his probation, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said.

Robert Phelps, 21, was originally convicted of lewd and lascivious battery with a victim between 12 and 16 years old. He served his time and was placed on probation and ordered not to access the internet until he received counseling, deputies said.

However, Phelps didn’t oblige.

Phelps created a fake Facebook page using his cousin’s name to email three female inmates, including one he claimed was his girlfriend.

While searching through Phelps’ friends list, deputies found 24-year-old Charles Roberts, another convicted sex offender who was prohibited from accessing the internet.

It’s unclear how deputies discovered Phelps’ Facebook page.

Phelps and Roberts are both in custody with no bond set.
