All wet: Cape Coral man hid behind boat after chase

NAPLES, Fla. A 33-year-old Cape Coral man dove into the water at the Port of Naples Marina at the end of a high-speed car chase.

Antonio D’Angelo is facing multiple charges after leading deputies down U.S. 41 Tuesday night in a stolen car, the Collier Sheriff’s Office said. D’Angelo drove into the Windstar on Naples Bay community and crashed into a wall near Goodlette Road, according to deputies.

He ran, jumped in the water and hid behind Capt. Joel Pepper’s boat near Kelly’s Fish House, where deputies eventually found him, a sheriff’s office report said.

“Crazier things have happened. You never know what people are going to do these days,” Pepper said. “… He could have hurt somebody.”

Pepper’s boat wasn’t damaged.
