Plans for new Charlotte County library move forward

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. Architects are putting the finishing touches on the design for a new state-of-the-art library.

The 20,000-square-foot South County Regional Library is set to replace the smaller Punta Gorda Library at 401 Shreve St.

Charlotte County voters passed a 1 percent sales tax in 2014 to help pay for the new library.

Construction is scheduled to begin later this year and is expected to take 18 months.
