Construction workers help contain Naples brush fire

Published: Updated:

NAPLES, Fla. Several construction workers sprung into action after a small brush fire ignited Thursday night by a construction site near Radio and Livingston roads, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said.

The blaze broke out around 8 p.m., according to the Florida Forest Service. The construction workers brought out extinguishers and water to put out the flames.

However, Brian Howard is being hailed a hero by his coworkers after he built a barrier around the fire to prevent it from spreading until firefighters arrived.

“I jumped on the machine, I went back there and buried the fire,” he said. “I built a burm around it and just buried the fire because embers were flying out all over the place.”

It’s unclear what caused the fire.
