SOUTH FORT MYERS, Fla. A long-term substitute teacher and football coach at South Fort Myers High School was removed from his position after lending his car to a student, Lee County schools spokesperson Lauren Stillwell said.

Markihe Anderson, 29, allowed a student to leave school grounds in his car to get food, Stillwell said.

District officials received information about the incident on March 27 after the school’s principle, Ed Mathews, asked to have Anderson removed, Stillwell said.

The district decided to place Anderson on the do-not-call list for at least five years, Stillwell said.

The Florida Department of Education was also informed of the incident, Stillwell said.

Anderson is currently trying to move on from the situation and continue helping Lee County students and athletes.

“They know my passion, they know my heart,” he said. “They know what I stand for.”

The district declined to comment any further.

No further information was immediately available.
