Convicted felon arrested in Fort Myers shooting

FORT MYERS, Fla. One person was arrested in connection with a shooting Tuesday morning on U.S. 41, the Fort Myers Police Department said.

Javon McClures, 39, of Fort Myers, was taken into custody and faces charges of aggravated battery with a firearm, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, firing a weapon on residential property, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to detectives.

Detectives responded to 3079 Cleveland Ave. after a shooting was reported, and found a victim with a gunshot wound, detectives said.

Following the shooting, the victim was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital to treat his non life-threatening injuries, according to a press release.

Officers from the Gang Suppression Unit, Patrol Division and the U.S. Marshal Task Force found the suspect identified as McClures a short time later.

It’s unclear when McClures will appear in court.
