Developer unveils plans for new downtown Fort Myers hotel

FORT MYERS, Fla. A developer’s vision for a new hotel downtown is coming into focus.

Joe Collier, founder of Tampa-based Mainsail Lodging and Development, revealed his plans Thursday for the Luminary Hotel next to the Harborside Event Center.

“We’re excited.” Collier said. “This town’s been waiting for it for a long time. I know that and it takes a long time to really go through the process.”

The Luminary will be 12 stories and include a restaurant, rooftop bar and access to the Harborside Event Center.

“The city’s working hard to provide the infrastructure and the curb appeal that’ll inspire that kind of private and public partnership and investment,” Mayor Randy Henderson said.

Collier believes Luminary will be unique and hopes it will bring a spotlight to the city.

“They’ve got so many already good things happening in downtown Fort Myers,” he said. “I think we’re just gonna take it to the next step.”

Construction is scheduled to begin in June.
