Nearly 5,000 new SWFL private-sector jobs added within past year

NAPLES, Fla. Nearly 5,000 new private-sector jobs were added in Southwest Florida between March 2016 and March 2017, Gov. Rick Scott announced Friday.

Naples, with 1,700 new jobs, dropped its unemployment rate by .3 percent to 4 percent within the year. Fort Myers, with 3,100 new jobs, also has a similar unemployment rate, Scott said.

Florida businesses created 233,800 new jobs, increasing the number of new jobs statewide to 1,353,00 since December 2010, Scott said.

Overall, Florida businesses have created 60,00 new jobs in the first quarter of 2017 and the state’sunemployment rate has dropped to 4.8 percent.
