GOLDEN GATE ESTATES, Fla. A 20-year-old man was pulled out of a canal in the 3000 block of 50th Street Southwest on Friday, the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission said.

Marc Newberry, 20, of Naples, was involved in a single-boat crash in a Golden Gate canal where he succumbed to his injuries, the FWC said on Saturday.

David Banas, 21, was also in the boat at the time of the wreck, the FWC said. It is unclear if he sustained any injuries at this time.

Newberry and Banas were traveling eastbound in the canal. When they attempted to make a left turn they were both ejected from the boat, the FWC said.

The crash remains under investigation.
