INDIANAPOLIS (CBS) Indianapolis police say a former teacher has been arrested on charges alleging she provided the anti-anxiety drug Xanax to a 17-year-old student she was having sex with and gave a gun to a second juvenile who she knew planned to commit crimes with it. They say 38-year-old Kathryn Hagan was arrested Tuesday on two counts of child seduction and single counts of dealing in a controlled substance, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and dangerous control of a firearm. It wasn’t clear whether Hagan has an attorney who might comment on her behalf. Investigators allege Hagan invited the 17-year-old student to her apartment on two occasions, giving him Xanax on the first visit and having sex with him in her bedroom on the second, CBS affiliate WTTV reports. Prosecutors say Hagan texted the student asking him to call in sick “and meet up at my house for the day.” The victim’s mother discovered evidence of the inappropriate relationship and contacted officials from the Franklin Township Community School Corp. on April 7, who then alerted police and child welfare officials, WTTV reports. The school suspended Hagan until she resigned. Detectives interviewed other students and learned of a 10-second video circulating among students showing Hagan and the victim naked together, according to court documents. Authorities said students were using the video to blackmail Hagan into improving their grades. After police were tipped off, investigators say Hagan exchanged text messages with another student, including a message in which Hagan allegedly wrote, “I can’t believe I bought him Xanax.” Hagan and the second student also allegedly discussed robbing students who had incriminating evidence on their phones, WTTV reports. The student offered to carry out the robbery if Hagan provided a gun, prosecutors said. She then allegedly bought a gun and ammunition and gave them to the second student in order to rob the other students. Hagan worked at the school from Jan. 3, 2017, until her resignation April 7. The school said it was “cooperating fully” with the investigation and noted its hiring process includes a criminal background check.
