FORT MYERS, Fla. Two people were critically injured Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash at U.S. 41 and Sanibel Boulevard.

Daniel Del Castillo, 46, of Miami, was driving a 2014 FHRT Liner traveling southeast on U.S. 41 when a 2004 Honda Accord entered his path, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Castillo applied his brakes and skidded into the intersection but was unable to avoid a head-on collision, troopers said.

The driver and passenger in the Honda, who were not wearing seat belts, were ejected from their vehicle, troopers said. Both were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital. Their identities were being held pending family notification.

Castillo and his passenger were not injured.

The driver of the Honda had alcohol in his system, troopers said.
