Fifth DUI lands Lehigh Acres man in jail for a year

FORT MYERS, Fla. A 58-year-old Lehigh Acres man will spend a year in jail following his fifth DUI conviction, the State Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.

Edward Ray Shambaugh’s alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit when he crashed his scooter in a median in December 2016, said prosecutors, who added that his drivers license was also permanently suspended at the time. Shambaugh had four previous DUI convictions in Broward County.

Shambaugh’s latest DUI conviction included following terms:

  • 12 months of probation.
  • Driver’s license was permanently suspended.
  • May not possess or consume alcohol and will undergo random drug screening.
  • Must complete the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment program.
  • Must attend DUI school.
  • Must pay $4,000 fine and court costs.
