Man arrested for fatal Lehigh Acres DUI crash

FORT MYERS, Fla.  A 24-year-old Lehigh Acres man was arrested Thursday in connection with a November 2016 fatal alcohol-related crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Nathaniel Poore, 24, of South Oro Circle, faces charges of DUI manslaughter and two counts of DUI serious bodily injury. Poore remained in the Lee County Jail on Thursday under no bond.

Poore was traveling eastbound on State Road 82 near Rue Labeau Circle in a Ford F150 which he crashed head-on with a Ford E350 travelling westbound.

John Joseph Leary, 50, of Bradenton, a passenger in the E350, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said.

Ciara Leary, 16, the driver of the E350, and Austin Shinkle, 19, both of Bradenton, were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Both teens were wearing seat belts, troopers said.

Poore’s alcohol level was more than two times the legal limit and he tested positive for marijuana, troopers said.
