Missing motorcycle returned to Lee County man over a year later

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. A man’s prized motorcycle was found and repaired after it went missing nearly a year ago.

North Fort Myers resident Frank Dampier took one of his four motorcycles to get a repair at Caribbean Cycles and Watercraft on 322 Gunnery Road South last year. Dampier paid the repair shop $300 up front to work on his 1200 Volcan.

But the owner suffered a gunshot wound and was forced to close the business — with no notice to customers like Dampier. Once Dampier found out, he arranged to pick up his bike, which was still in need of repairs.

Nothing But Hawgs Performance Cycles, a repair shop in Fort Myers, learned of Dampier’s plight when a WINK News story aired March 31. They offered to fix the bike for free, and on Wednesday, Dampier finally had his ride back and ready to roll.

“That’s what its about, getting people back on the road,” Nothing But Hawgs mechanic Matt Hawley said.

Dampier was, needless to say, impressed.

“It’s hard to believe there’s businesses like this left — guys that really care about people,” Dampier said. “I appreciate WINK-TV, and these guys are great.”
