Gov. Scott talks Irma, jobs in North Naples visit

NORTH NAPLES, Fla. Gov. Rick Scott discussed both Hurricane Irma and job growth in a Tuesday visit.

The governor declared a state of emergency for all of Florida late Monday afternoon in response to the threat from Hurricane Irma.

Scott activated 100 members of the Florida Air and Army National Guard ahead of Hurricane Irma and they will be stationed across the state, Scott said in a statement. An additional 7,000 troops will report Friday morning.

“With Hurricane Irma now a category 5 storm, we must do all we can to prepare our families and communities for any potential impact from this major weather event,” Scott said in a statement. “We do not know the exact path of this storm, but weather can change in an instant and while we hope for the best, we must prepare for the worst.”

Scott addressed flooding concerns across Southwest Florida.

“Historically, in Florida the water drains off quickly, but in the middle of it like last weekend even here in Naples, there was quite a bit of flooding. My heart goes out those impacted by it,” Scott said.

Scott spoke at 10:30 a.m. at Pyure company headquarters on 5405 Taylor Road. Pyure is an independent stevia sweetener company.
