Rising waters in Glades County prompts voluntary evacuations

Published: Updated:

LABELLE, Fla. Voluntary evacuations took place Monday night in Glades County due to rising water, according to Hendry County officials.

Voluntary evacuations took place in the area of County Road 78 north to Whidden Road and from State Road 29 west to Pollywog Canal due to rising waters, Hendry County officials said.

Hendry County EMS and the Hendry County Sheriff’s office are assisting with evacuations.

The flooding is a direct result of sheet flow from Glades County and not a result of the failure of any levee or the Caloosahatchee River overflowing, Hendry County officials said.

A curfew remains in effect until  7 a.m. Tuesday.

Residents are advised to stay in their homes, if possible and should not travel on roads that may not be safe.

No further information was immediately available.
