Lee County schools propose hurricane day makeups

Published: Updated:

FORT MYERS, Fla. The Lee County school district has come up with a formal proposal for making up missed days because of Hurricane Irma.

The proposal will be submitted to the school board for approval Oct. 3. It would add six of the 12 instructional days lost to the storm.

The state is allowing school districts to waive two missed days without making them up, no questions asked. Districts can apply to waive additional missed days.

The Lee schools proposal is as follows:

  • October 16 – Professional Duty Day becomes a regular school day
  • December 19-21 – Early Dismissal Days become regular school days
  • December 22 – Professional Duty Day becomes an Early Dismissal Day
  • January 8 – Hurricane Makeup Day becomes a regular school day
  • March 16 – Professional Duty Day becomes a regular school day
  • April 2 – Easter Monday becomes a regular school day

Students won’t return to school from the storm-imposed break until Monday.
