San Carlos Park man enters plea in deadly wrong-way crash

Canfield entered a plea but sentencing is scheduled for November 13th at 1:30 p.m.

FORT MYERS, Fla. A 47-year-old man entered a plea Monday for his role in a wrong-way crash that killed a woman, the state attorney’s office said Tuesday.

Brian Canfield, of San Carlos Park, was accused of driving the wrong way on Interstate 75 and hitting another vehicle with Anne Shifley inside. Shifley later succumbed to her injuries.

The crash took place on Aug. 7, 2016. Canfield was arrested on Feb. 23 and faced the following charges, according to the FHP:

  • Driving under the influence
  • Manslaughter
  • Vehicular homicide
  • DUI property damage
  • Posession of a controlled substance

A sentencing hearing is set for Nov. 13.
