Bodies found at Fort Myers apartment identified

FORT MYERS, Fla. A 53-year-old man and a 23-year-old man were found dead Monday in an apartment at Gulfstream Isles.

Police on Tuesday released the identity of the men whose bodies were discovered after reports of gunshots brought officers to the complex off Summerlin Road and Boy Scout Drive.

Michael Sean Smith, 23, lived in the apartments, while the other victim, Stephen Belmonte, 53, lived on the 8100 block of Country Road in south Fort Myers, by Gladiolus Drive and Summerlin Road, according to police.

Police referred to Smith and Belmonte as shooting victims in a press release Tuesday.

Weapons were found in the apartment along with the bodies, Fort Myers Police Lt. Jay Rodriguez said Monday.

A dog named Sandy was also found shot to death, police said.
