Brian Canfield, 47, of San Carlos Park, was sentenced Monday to nine years in prison and had his license suspended for life, according to the terms of a plea deal released by Florida’s 20th Judicial Circuit Court. He was accused of driving the wrong way on Aug. 7, 2016 on Interstate 75 and colliding with another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle, 34-year-old Anne Shifley, later succumbed to her injuries. He must attend DUI school, and he’s barred from consuming alcohol during his probation. He’ll be outfitted with an electronic monitoring device. He was arrested on Feb. 22 and pleaded no-contest Oct. 3 to charges of vehicular homicide, DUI causing death, possession of a controlled substance and DUI property damage.
