Neighbors expressed concerns over an intersection after a car went into a canal Tuesday night.

The crash happened near the intersection of Surfside Boulevard and Beach Parkway.

Crews had to pull the car out of the canal, according to witnesses who saw one person rushed to the hospital.

There is a history of crashes at this same location. Six years ago, one family fought for major safety changes like adding guard rails at the sharp turn on Surfside Boulevard.

A city spokesperson told WINK News Wednesday afternoon guardrails are meant to redirect a vehicle back to a roadway, not stop it head-on. Instead, the city chose to add reflectors and other safety improvements. The city said money had nothing to do with the decision.
