5 arrested in connection with Fort Myers homicide case

Five people were arrested Wednesday in connection with the death of a 32-year-old man, according to the Fort Myers Police Department.

Daryl D. Scott was found shot to death early Sunday morning off Marsh Avenue, police said.

Edey Emmanuel Cardenas, 21, Mario Joel Benitez, 22, Roger Ludenas, 21, Taquan Ramel Brown, 27, and Cheyenne Nicole Marron, 22, were all arrested and are in custody.

It’s believed the suspects knew Scott, who was a father of three, and targeted him for a robbery, police said.

The suspects were arrested nearly 48 hours after the crime took place, police said. People who witnessed the crime cooperated by providing law enforcement with information.

“I hope it shows all our community that we mean business … we practice what we preach,” said Cpt. Jay Rodriguez, with the Fort Myers Police Department.

All suspects are being held without bond and face charges of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery, police said.

While they are not all responsible for pulling the trigger, police said their involvement in planning the robbery makes them all equally responsible.

Their first appearance in court is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
