Suspect in fentanyl drug bust at Lehigh Senior called a ‘middle man’ to a bigger problem

An 18-year-old student at Lehigh Senior High School is being called a ‘middle man’ after arresting and accusing her of having 18 bags of fentanyl on school campus.

Authorities say the problem with an arrest like this is that it’s now going to be extremely difficult to find the source.

Parents of students at the school are mostly happy it’s no longer in the hallways.

The list of charges goes on and on for Ayanna Felix, accused of bringing 2.7 grams of fentanyl, 2.5 grams of Cocaine, and 6.1 grams of Marijuana into Lehigh Senior High School.

The fentanyl equivalent of just 3 to 4 grains of salt can kill an adult. One could argue Felix had enough to kill half the student population, 1,300 kids.

We had an expert break down the monetary value and there was about $3,000 worth of fentanyl in the backpack.

But the question parents still want answered — Where did it come from?

Steven Hill, Director of Residential Programs with SalusCare says, “We know a lot of the drugs come in through ports over on the east coast and they start going to the larger Florida cities. One big run goes to Tampa, and of course if you’re leaving the east coast and going to Tampa, you come right through Fort Myers.”

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says they don’t know who Felix’s source is, but drug sniffing dogs go to random Lee County schools every day.

Shelley Deguzman, a grandparent of a Lehigh Senior student likes the enforcement, “If you don’t have anything to hide don’t worry about it. You got something to hide? Well you should worry about it.”

Parents and grandparents are using this as a reminder for their loved ones.

Felix’s mother showed up to her first appearance this morning saying felix is a great child and has never gotten into trouble before.

Her trial date is set for March 18.
