FMPD Officer Jobbers-Miller shot a year ago, family awaits justice

Family and friends of a fallen police officer gathered to remember their loved one on the first anniversary of his death.

Officer Adam Jobbers-Miller, 29, of Fort Myers Police Department was shot in the head in the line of duty, July 21, 2018, a year ago Sunday.


Jobbers-Miller was responding to an incident at a Marathon gas station along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when he was shot and died from his injuries a week later July 28, 2018.

Wisner Desmaret, 29, is accused of taking the officer’s gun during a struggle at the gas station and shooting and killing him. Witnesses said Desmaret ran back to the gas station after he shot Jobbers-Miller, where more gunfire was exchanged with other officers before he was arrested. Desmaret has been in custody since the night of the shooting.

There are concerns over whether Desmaret will stand trial for Jobbers-Miller’s murder because his attorney is discussing whether Desmaret is competent enough to stand trial. Two doctors have already evaluated him, but his lawyers and the state attorney’s office want the judge to approve the hiring of two more experts.

Since Jobbers-Miller’s death, the community has shown an outpouring of support for the fallen officer and his family, holding countless fundraisers and memorials.

Event: A three-day blood drive will be held in honor of Jobber-Miller 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Lee Memorial Hospital and Wednesday at Fort Myers Police Department.s

The state attorney wants the death penalty for Desmaret.
