Credit: Radar via WINK News. NOAA issued a significant weather advisory for parts of Charlotte, DeSoto, Sarasota and other nearby counties that will be active until 5 p.m. Sunday. Just before 4 p.m., Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms about 6 miles northeast of Port Charlotte. Winds greater than 40 mph and along with pea-size hail are possible with these storms. Torrential rain from the storms could lead to local flooding. Drivers are advised to avoid traveling through flooded streets with their vehicles and are warned of possible ground lightning. People are recommended to stay indoors or inside a parked vehicle during the storms.
