Florida Highway Patrol took over the investigation of a five-car crash after a Cape Coral Police Department patrol car was involved Friday.

According to FHP, it was determined the Cape police vehicle caused a crash involving multiple other vehicles on Veterans Memorial Parkway, between Country Club Boulevard and Santa Barbara Boulevard.

The patrol car was traveling on the inside center lane along Veterans heading westbound toward Santa Barbara Boulevard. The officer was responding to Be On the Look Out emergency call. Cars in front of the patrol car were at a reduced speed due to traffic; the patrol car hit the back of another in front of it and that caused a crash with three other cars in the lane.

The officer was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Only one other person involved in the crash was taken to the hospital for minor injures.
