A Collier County family is uneasy Tuesday evening after a burglar fooled them into letting the thief into their home. Now, the crooks are still on the loose.

$2,000 worth of jewelry is gone. Two people posed as a tree removal company, but it was a ploy.

“The guy basically started out and negotiated a price and said, ‘okay, I’ll come back Monday morning,'” said Chet Seecharan, whose home was robbed.

When he came back, the crook had a plan to distract. The man stayed in the car while a woman went to the front door.

“She says, ‘I would like to take them in the back to see what other work they want to get done,'” Seecharan said. “So my sister-in-law hesitated.”

They knew something was not right. The hatch on their unmarked car was open, along with the doors. It was all ready to fill the car with stolen items.

The family was in disbelief when they noticed their prized possessions were stolen.

“The sentimental value,” Seecharan said. “You can’t put a money price on it and those are the things that are hurtful.”
