Robert Gallegos was sentenced to 48 months of probation Wednesday for stealing an airport golf cart and wreaking havoc on the runway at Page Field Airport in Fort Myers.

Gallegos pled no contest to one count each of; Grand Theft, Trespassing/Violate Designated Operational Area of Airport, Criminal Mischief $1,000 or More and Resisting without Violence.

Earlier this year, in June, Gallegos stole a golf cart belonging to the airport and went on a joy ride. He drove it onto the runway which prevented a plane from being able to land. The plane had to do another lap until it was safe to land.

Gallegos crashed the golf cart and took off running. He ran to a nearby party store at Page Field Commons and was captured inside by law enforcement who had to use a taser to get him under control. Lee County Port Authority Police and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office handled the incident.

As a condition of his probation the defendant must do an 18 month residential drug treatment program and a substance abuse evaluation with follow up treatment. He must also stay away from the airport and pay restitution.
