He may be a seven-time all-star and a World Series champion, but FGCU alumnus Chris Sale never forgot where he came from. That showed at Friday’s “Night at the Nest” event held at Alico Arena.

The Red Sox starting pitcher announced a donation of $1 million to the athletic program on behalf of him and his wife, Brianne.

This marks the largest amount of money an alumnus has ever donated.

“This university gave us so much,” Sale said. “And, for us to be able to give a small part back and do something for where we came from, where we met and all that, it’s nice.”

The money will go to a new video board at Swanson Stadium at FGCU.

“I feel blessed that he played here,” Eagle head coach Dave Tollet said. “I feel blessed that he’s my friend. I feel blessed that he’s an alumni here at FGCU.”
