A Fort Myers man is facing DUI charges after striking the rear of a state trooper vehicle on Wednesday afternoon.

The suspect, Donald Moates, 70, faces charges of DUI with Personal Injury, DUI with Property Damage and Careless Driving.

Moates was driving a Buick Lucerne north in the left travel lane of San Carlos Blvd., just north of Prescott St. The victim, Michelson Fleurant, 35, was in a marked Florida Highway Patrol vehicle, a Dodge Charger, parked in the right travel lane with its emergency lights activated.

According to the FHP press release, as Moates changed from the left to the right lane, he failed to slow and struck the rear of the parked FHP vehicle. The suspect’s car rotated clockwise. Both drivers were left with minor injuries and were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital.
