You may see more Florida Highway Patrol troopers on the road Tuesday along Palm Beach Blvd. near Marsh Ave., as they teach pedestrians and bikers about road safety.

The goal is to decrease the amount of injuries and deaths through education in areas like Palm Beach Blvd.

Pedestrians and bicyclists are using that roadway to commute and Nathaniel Borrero is one of them. He told WINK News that he has seen a lot of close calls.

“A lot of challenges like accidents,” Borrero said, “people almost got hit.”

Troopers are passing out tools for bikers to check their tire pressure and flashing lights to use while walking.

FHP says they put on the program once a month and many of the walkers and bikers say they use the tools dispersed by troopers daily to keep them safe.

“We want to get the word out about the safety and importance of knowing some of the laws regarding pedestrians and safety,” said Sam Garcia, of the FHP. “What they can do to better or enhance or to reduce the risk that they encounter every day.”
