A park or restaurant could be placed on parts of the existing Cape Coral bridge if some members of the public get their way.

At a meeting next Wednesday a presentation will be made to the Transportation Advisory Committee regarding these plans.

One option includes replacing just the westbound span first, with eastbound to follow years later.

The other option includes building an entirely new bridge. Something the presentation notes will be a more cost-effective option.

In doing so, they could keep the old bridge and use it for a bike-pedestrian park and potentially add restaurants under the underpass, if needed.

The bridge opened in 1964 and is set to be replaced in eight years. The westbound span design phase is scheduled for 2021.

This bridge is maintained by Lee county.

Below are renderings presented by members of the public to be discussed, along with how the project will move forward as a whole, at an upcoming meeting.
