A New Jersey man has died following a one-vehicle wreck just outside the Southwest International Airport in Lee County Friday, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

On Feb. 14, around 8:45 p.m., James Oneil, 74, of Haddon Heights, New Jersey, was traveling west on County Road 885 (Terminal Access Road) just west of Treeline Avenue in a 2019 Acura MDX.

Oneil was traveling in the outside lane when he veered off the roadway to the right, causing his front bumper to collide with a wired fence on the north side of the unpaved shoulder.

The Acura came to final rest facing north on Terminal Access Road.

Oneill was transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center where he died of his injuries.

FHP says alcohol was not a factor in this wreck; however, Oneil was not wearing a seat belt.
