A Cape Coral woman was arrested early Monday in connection with a fatal crash that killed her 3-year-old daughter in February.

Fort Myers police said Leslie Joe Zeagler, 30, was headed eastbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., on Feb. 17, when she blacked out, left the road and struck several trees near Rockfill Road. The vehicle rolled, and Zeagler’s daughter, Serenity Robinson, was ejected.

Serenity was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital, where she later died.

Zeagler and her passenger were treated and released with minor injuries.

Police said Monday that their investigation revealed there was no child restraint device in the vehicle, and Serenity was not restrained at the time of the crash. Zeagler was found to be under the influence of multiple controlled substances, according to police.

Zeagler turned herself in to police shortly after midnight Monday. She is charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child, DUI manslaughter and driving on a suspended license.

She remains in the Lee County Jail and bond has not been set.
