Tropical Storm Arthur likely to impact NC’s Outer Banks

Tropical Storm Arthur formed Saturday evening off Florida’s east-central coast to start the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season.

Arthur is heading in a north-northeast direction and will not impact Southwest Florida. The storm has max-sustained winds of 45 mph and is moving at 10 mph as of 11 p.m. Sunday.

Arthur is expected to produce 1 to 3 inches of rainfall over coastal North Carolina beginning Sunday night into Monday, with higher amounts at that time.

Watches and warnings

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for a portion of the North Carolina coast. This means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area — in this case within the next 24 hours.
