It is the fourth major retailer to meet that fate. Penney said late Friday, May 15, 2020, it will be closing some stores and will be disclosing details and timing in the next few weeks. JCPenney continues to work toward mass shutdowns of its selected department stores nationwide. But a Southwest Florida JCPenney location is being spared.

An employee of JCPenney at Gulf Coast Town Center in Lee County confirms Tuesday the local store will not be among the more than 130 stores JCPenney plans to close.

Previously among the list of stores closing in Florida, the GCTC JCPenney is no longer named.

See stories in the region that remain among those set to shut down:

  • Coralwood Shopping Center
2301 Del Prado Blvd, Ste 700
    Cape Coral, FL 33990
    239-574-9111

For stores that are closing, JCPenney says temporarily reduced store hours will continue to be noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Further JCPenney store closing details are available on the company blog page.
