Speed limit lowered on Del Prado Blvd. S. in Cape Coral

If you drive Del Prado Boulevard South in Cape Coral, you’ll want to leave a little earlier to get where you’re going, as the speed limit has been lowered.

The Cape Coral Police Department said a speed study conducted by the Lee County Department of Transportation found that “Del Prado Boulevard has changed its nature from a through highway to an urban arterial street. The large number of driveways and side streets serving high turnover businesses have created an environment that indicates a lower recommended speed limit.”

The study also found that “Del Prado Boulevard has a higher than expected vehicle crash rate that can be attributed to excessive speed and frequent side street conflicts. Del Prado Boulevard has double the crash rate for pedestrians and bicycles as compared to the rest of the County.”

Del Prado Blvd. is a county road, and as a result of LDOT’s study, the speed limit was lowered from 45 mph to 40 mph, between Hancock Bridge Parkway and Coronado Parkway.
